emma treehouse

Domaine de Boisbuchet, France, 2009

In cooperation with Vitra Design Museum and the Centre Georges Pompidou.

During an international summer workshop, we built -under the supervision of EM2N Architekten from Zurich- a treehouse on a big tree of the park. We started to knot and weave ropes and bamboo strips to create the structure of the house. Finally, we put bamboo leaves in the  structure’s texture– the skin of our house- which resembles the skin of a human body with its bones under it.

This permeability effect increases the sense that the structure is tangible and you can see it, but you cannot touch it if you are not inside!

The form is like a snake that hugs the tree bottom-up, incorporating the stairs, that are planned like the ones of a boat with alternated steps, in order to increase the sense of play.
